Aldridge Traffic Controllers has released an eco-friendly version of its Type Approved Active Advanced Warning Sign Controller (AWSC4-SOL).

This new product was developed in response to market demand for remote sites where the cost of providing mains power is prohibitive or technically not feasible. The Solar-AWSC4 comprises two cabinets, one to house the Active Advanced Warning Sign Controller equipment sensor and the second to house the Solar Charger subsystem and batteries to provide 1.6KW generation capability and a self-sustaining time of a minimum of 2.5 days without sun.

This product also uses a 3G (or NextG in Australia) UMTS modem for remote communications to a monitoring system or laptop based interrogation application used by service personnel. The Solar AWSC4 like the Mains AC powered version reports back any abnormal alarms to a central monitoring system using an XML based protocol to communicate its data.

This product provides advanced warning by up to 200m prior to a motorist reaching a rail level crossing to allow sufficient time to come to a stop prior to the level crossing in rural areas where the terrain, vegetation or road orientation prevents a motorist from seeing a train occupying a road -rail level crossing.
