Aldridge Traffic Controllers announce they are planning to run two training courses regarding NGEN Adaptive Traffic Signal Engineering and the SCATS(R) Urban Traffic Control Practitioner's Courses in April and May of 2013 respectively.

NGEN Adaptive Engineering Training

This course is for anyone involved in the design of signal phasing at an intersection using Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) TSC/4 Compliant Controllers or using the System Interface Device (SID) interfaced to Traffic Signal Controllers that are not compliant to the TSC4 specification.

The course involves both theory and practical hand-on training using the NGEN Software package and a Cardbus programmer to load the "personality" or intersection configuration into the controller for testing and verification.

Course Outcomes

  • Develop and test a controller personality using the NGEN program.
  • Understand the principles related to personality generation.
  • Review signal plan designs and generate personality data.
  • Understand vehicle and pedestrian signal display configuration and safety.

Course Summary

Course participants will be trained to develop the skills and knowledge to review signal plans, analyse and understand design's concept of operation and create an appropriate personality.

The course is of 4 days duration. There is an emphasis on different signal operations and configurations commonly encountered, ensuring that conflicts and safety are addressed correctly. For more information on the NGEN training course refer to our NGEN website page dedicated to the course and also the product page for the NGEN software.

SCATS(R) Practitioner's Course Training

This course is aimed at Traffic Engineers or personnel who will be implementing the SCATS(R) Urban Traffic Control system or is joining an organisation that has SCATS(R) and needs to maintain and improve an existing system.

SCATS(R) is the premier fully adaptive, real time Urban Traffic Control (UTC) system deployed in over 150 cities worldwide and this course provides the necessary background to implement a new site and configure the SCATS(R) Database to add new Traffic Signal Controllers involved in time coordination.

Course Outcomes

  • Collect the necessary timing information at each intersection to configure the SCATS(R) System.
  • Understand the principles related to cycle timing and coordination.
  • Review signal plan designs and generate configuration data for each intersection.
  • Generate the SCATS(R) graphics for each intersection.
  • Configure the coordination of adjacent intersections on a road corridor to provide adaptive coordination.
  • Understand vehicle and pedestrian signal display configuration and safety.

Course Summary

Course participants will be able to install the SCATS(R) software, configure the database and then commence the data configuration process.

Alongside this is the generation of SCATS(R) graphics and to implement coordination data to achieve time efficient traffic flow.
