The SCATS® software system is packaged to allow varying sizes depending on the end user needs but with the ability to expand the system without losing any of the existing SCATS® and Traffic Signal Controller investment.

SCATS® Core which is the basis for every fully adaptive Urban Traffic Control system is available in the following configurations:

  • SCATS® Core 250 - Will perform adaptive or fixed time traffic management with up to 250 traffic signal controllers connected to it.
  • SCATS® Core 100 - Will perform adaptive or fixed time traffic management with up to 100 traffic signal controllers connected to it.
  • SCATS® Core 50 - Will perform adaptive or fixed time traffic management with up to 50 traffic signal controllers connected to it.

For the above versions, users must also purchase SCATS Connect Fees for every Traffic Signal Controller connected to it and there are 2 types:

  • Fully Adaptive
  • Fixed Time

Most SCATS® installations all perform Fully Adaptive traffic management making use of the highly sophisticated algorithms developed over 40 years of continuous improvement and refinement.

The Central Manage (CM) and each Regional Computer (RC) will require a USB Hardware Dongle to operate the licensed software that are issued when the end user has accepted and signed the software EULA.

The workhorse of the SCATS® system are the Regional Computers and one SCATS® Central Manager (CM) can have up to 64 Regional Computers as part of its system architecture, each controlling up to 250 Traffic Signal Controllers each as shown in the graphic below:

Please use the Related Links on this web page for further information about the wide range of application software that can be used in the management and performance tuning of the Traffic Signals at the intersections under SCATS® control.

For new users, a typical project will involve using ATC's SCATS qualified resources to analyze and implement a coordination plan in tandem with the setup and configuration of the Traffic Signal Controller's data known commonly as "Personality Data".

ATC will provide guidance to the end user about the hardware and communications topology if new to Adaptive Road Traffic Engineering as well as training in the setup and running of the SCATS system.

For existing SCATS users, a migration plan to upgrade their existing SCATS system to the latest is possible, please consult the SCATS Upgrade Migration web page for further information.
